Karen Baptist Convention Women Department (KBCWD)’s Story

KBCWD has been working for women development program, training program, literature program, care and protection for women program, care for the aged program and evangelism program. Among them KBCWD please to describe about the implemented activities that related with the social mission are as following.

Care and Protection for Women Program. This program is to care the women who need the help and support like widows, migrant workers, domestic workers, the survivors of domestic, sex and trafficked cases, drug addicts and HIV/AIDS. The goal of the shelter is to reenter the lives of survivors to their community and earn their lives with dignity. The services for survivors are as basic package, counselling, medical treatment, psychosocial support, legal advice, life skill training, income generation activities and safe accommodation and clothing.

In the current times, Karen Baptist Convention Women Department (KBCWD) had implemented the two projects with the other organization such as “The Organizing Domestic Workers Project” and “Anti-Trafficking in Persons Project.”

The Organizing Domestic Workers Project is cooperated together with International Labour Organization (ILO) which aims to empower the domestic workers to know their rights and township level women leaders for ILO’s C189 convention as the rules. The target areas took place in the areas of Ayryarwady region, Yangon Region and Western Bago for 21 months (July, 2019-March, 2021). Providing the awareness to the migrant workers, domestic workers and local leader, individual support by meal, accommodation, health and travelling allowance during COVID-19 pandemic for the domestic workers and hygiene kits are main implementation activities of the project.

Anti-Trafficked in Persons Project is working together with World Vision Myanmar which aims to strengthen the comprehensive reintegration support to trafficking survivors in Myanmar through a coordinated local, national and regional approach for 31 months (April, 2019-October, 2021). The target areas took place in the areas of 11 townships at Ayeyarwady Region, East Bago and Rakhine state.  Improving the comprehensive reintegration services for identified survivors of trafficking by 55 case management, strengthen the communities for working together to prevent trafficking through 68 awareness and increased the collaboration and engagement between the government and civil society networks as coordination meeting are the main implemented activities of project. The project implemented the 54 cases management, 68 awareness and 6 times of vocational skill training.
